Valentine Dance Great Success
2/15/2010 - District: Wisconsin - Upper Michigan - Submitted by: Connie Ellis,Lt Gov. Div. 13

Talk about warm and friendly, the Wild Rose club is to be applauded. The Valentine Day dance was attended by folks in the community following a "meal in a peel". A baked potato with every possible topping and dessert was served by smiling Kiwanians dressed in Kiwanis blue shirts.

A one man band suplied great polka and oldies music and young and old danced. There was a couple who celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.  A number of nursing home residents were there in their wheelchairs with the activity director from the Wild Rose nursing home holding hands with one resident at a time doing polka steps and bringing smiles.

The free event was advertized on several billboards in Wild Rose and took place at the Lions Club building, an example of cooperation between service organizations. Tables were set up with red place mats and desserts so visitors and dancers could make themselves at home.

This is a shining example of what Kiwanis does. Lunch for the community, a free caring, fun time for everyone.
